Zeynep Kuray sent news from prison
05 January 2012Jailed journalist Zeynep Kuray sent a news about recent punishment on women prisoners
Prisoners at Bakırköy C-Type Women’s Prison were subjected to a series of punishments for staging an indefinite hunger-strike aimed at protesting against the aggravated isolation on PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan.
Sixty PKK and PJAK woman prisoners who have staged an alternate hunger strike since 1 December 2011 have been denied permission to cultural and sport activities as well as face to face visit for one month.
The protesting prisoners, who are in the meantime preparing to appeal against the penalty imposed on them, underline that they will not remain silent until the isolation is in place.
Speaking to ANF on the subject, PKK-PJAK prisoner Sibel Akdeniz commented the disciplinary penalty by the prison administration as "unlawful and serving a sole oppression purpose". Akdeniz said that “Our protest aims to expose and condemn the isolation on Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan. It is not a protest against the implementations in the prison.”
