22 May 2012250 workers died in total in the first quarter of 2012
The families of workers who lost their life in work accidents will gather together on Sundays at Taksim to ask the end of "workplace murders" and to ensure the punishment of the perpetrators.
62 workers died in January, 4 in February, 59 in March, 87 in April this year. 250 workers died in total in the first quarter of 2012.
Reminding 5-8 workers are murdered at workplaces every day, Sinem Emir read the press statement:
"The reason for the workplace murders is clear enough to us and to the authorities: The employers do not care about the life of workers because of their profit desire and there are no precautions taken to ensure worker security. The authorities do not fulfill their responsibilities although the legislation provisions are so obvious."
"There's an obvious incident and its perpetrators are already known and this situation grows our rebellion and anger. The institutions and individuals responsible for auditing do not do their duties in this country, why?"
Workers' Health and Safety Council reported that at least 87 workers died in April as far as could be determined by written, visual and digital media. 22 workers died in constructions, 14 died in the mining sector and 12 workers died in energy sector.
The families will gather on Sundays at 13:00 in front of Galatasaray High School in Taksim.
