Thirteen students remanded in custody

hirteen university medical students out of the 46 taken into custody in seven cities on 6 June, were arrested and sent to prison within the scope of the so-called “KCK” (Kurdish Community Union) investigation conducted by Ankara Specially authorized Public Prosecutor Sadık Bayındır.

The Ankara centered operation was carried out against the Union of Health and Social Service Workers (SES) Students Commission and Turkish Medical Association (TTB) member students in the provinces of Istanbul, Diyarbakır, Mardin, Eskişehir, Kırıkkale and Afyon. 46 medical students who were detained with simultaneous operations in seven cities were taken to the Court of Ankara for interrogation.

Following the interrogation which lasted till late on 8 June night, 22 of the students were released by the prosecutor who referred other 25 to court, demanding arrest for all. The court ruled the arrest of 13 students whose names are; Tuncay Gökçen, Recep Kar, Zülküf Akelma, Karer Yurttaş, Mustafa Karakurt, Mehmet Aydın, Perişan Akan, Birat Şimşek, Mehmet Budak, Özgür Murat Bakan, Fatih Sultan Altın, Ahmet Demirel, Mustafa Akın.
