BDP and DTK to hold rally on 14 July
02 July 2012The meeting will be held in Diyarbakır and will call for peace and freedom for Öcalan
In a joint press conference by Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) and Democratic Society Congress (DTK), the organizations co-chairs outlined the main reason for organizing a meeting on 14 July in Diyarbakır. The slogan of the meeting will be “Freedom for Öcalan”.
Speaking at the conference which was also attended by BDP deputies and mayors, DTK co-chair and Van independent deputy Aysel Tuğluk called attention to the timing of the meeting which coincide with a period of intense conflict and many deaths. Tuğluk underlined that both DTK and BDP consider negotiation as the only way of resolving the Kurdish problem and said there are two alternatives now to reach a solution: negotiation and dialogue with the Turkish state or continuation of Kurdish people’s resistance to obtain their democratic rights.
The government’s policy on the Kurdish issue leads to a deadlock which prevents finding a solution and diminishes hopes for peace, said DTK co-chair and pointed out that the 14 July meeting in Diyarbakır will try to offer an answer to the search for a solution of the Kurdish problem.
“The Kurdish people demand a sign of will, because will is what is needed if we are to build peace, dialogue and peace in this territory. We, calling for dialogue, peace and recognition of Kurds by the Turkish state, will try to offer ways for a solution at the meeting in Diyarbakır. What the government is supposed to do - added the Van deputy - is to respect the will of Kurdish people who have chosen Abdullah Öcalan as the interlocutor to address the Kurdish problem”.
Tuğluk further underlined that a solution to the Kurdish issue will not have a chance unless Mr.Öcalan, PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) and BDP are included in the process of working for a solution. Tuğluk also noted that all Kurdish institutional structures will once again voice their demand for freedom for Öcalan at the meeting.
"It is needed to face the war reality in this territory and the fact that forty thousand people lost their lives in it", said Tuğluk and stated that this problem cannot be resolved without understanding why these people have lost their life. “We maintain our hope for peace and solution but we don’t believe the AKP is showing any democratic will in this respect”, underlined Tuğluk and added that the meeting will also expose that the ruling AK Party has lost its credibility in the eastern part of the country.
Speaking after Tuğluk, BDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş pointed out that the 14 July meeting is a consequence of the current deadlock in the Kurdish problem and the government’s rejecting the protocols that were put forward during Oslo and Imralı talks which lasted 2 and a half years. “The government should pay attention to this meeting which will expose the deadlock in the dialogue process”, added Demirtaş.
BDP co-chair Gülten Kışanak also called attention to the importance of the meeting which -she said- will display the fact that the Kurdish people are ready for a solution, democracy and peace. “The meeting will put forward a road map for the solution of the Kurdish problem and pave the way for a democratic solution process. To ensure negotiation and dialogue, it should be remembered that Mr. Öcalan, as the main interlocutor, should be provided with necessary security and health requirements to be enabled to play his role in this process”, said Kışanak.
