Turkish Foreign Minister to seek Barzani's cooperation
Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu will meet Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) president Massoud Barzani today.
The meeting comes after Barzani confirmed they are training Syrian Kurds who recently took control of several Kurdish cities in Syria.
Davutoğlu's visit to Hewler (Erbil) is considered by many in Turkey as "critical" as - so Turkish papers say - the Foreign Minister is expected to seek more cooperation from the Iraqi Kurdish leadership against the PKK. A request that, in light of recent events, seems unlikely to find great enthusiasm among the Kurds in the Federal Region.
Speaking ahead of his trip, Davutoğlu said that "Barzani has promised support in Turkey’s struggle against terrorism. His regional administration has shown unequivocal efforts to this end, but these are not enough for Turkey."
